iSpeak classes are offered in two formats: private tutoring and group classes. Private tutoring is more flexible than group classes in location, scheduling, and class level and content. Private tutoring sessions can take place at a student's home or office, iSpeak's classrooms, or another comfortable setting such as a Starbucks. The student is free to reschedule sessions if a conflict arises with the regularly scheduled time. The level and content of the class is also entirely tailored to the student's ability and interests. Private tutoring sessions typically match one teacher to a student, although we do tutor multiple students (usually 2 and no more than 3) at the same time. This often happens when close friends of similar skill levels decide among themselves to be tutored together. |
| |
Group classes are regularly scheduled classes that take place at iSpeak's classrooms. Group classes are small, consisting of 3 to 5 students. Students are placed into the same class based on a combination of skill level, scheduling, and interests. The contents of the group classes are customized. However, due to the heterogeneous nature of these classes, the customization to any one student will be more limited than private tutoring sessions. Currently, group classes are available at the beginner to intermediate levels. New classes start on a rolling basis. Once enough students express interest in a particular class, we will organize a new session. |
| |
Intensive classes: The courses are made on fixed schedule. They can't be changed for personal reasons after courses start. These courses are totally designed for those who want to improve their Mandarin Chinese in a short time in stable progress. Students have more chance to practice with classmates in class and make new friends as well. |
| |
Combined classes: Combined course designed for who like to have more than two kinds of course together. For exampale, If you take our group class, You can also take one on one private tutoring to catch up with your classmate if you need. Or In the morning we offer language Chinese , at afternoon you can choose other Chinese course as your like. Such as Chinese culture course, field work, business Chinese etc. |

Curricula Overview |

Our classes are individually tailored to each student, and builds on a set of core curricula. The curriculum most suitable for each student is determined based on a combination of the student's ability and interest. Students are free to decide which parts of the curriculum they want to emphasize. For example, a student may wish to focus more on spoken Chinese, and less on written Chinese. As the curriculum becomes more advanced, students will have more room to tailor the curriculum to their particular interests. |

field Work |
| |
We are a pioneer of novel and effective methods for teaching Chinese. Our students augment classroom work with "field" work, using their newly learned Chinese to order Chinese food at a local restaurant or navigate the public transportation. What they've learned in the classroom will be applied and enforced in safe, non-threatening, and real world environments. |

Course Materal |
| |
Unlike many other Chinese schools in Shanghai , we do not sell our own course material to students. We have reviewed many excellent books, and have decided that selecting from this set offers us greater flexibility in choosing the right material to meet a student's needs and interests. |
| |
|
|
Course Placement |
| |
We take great care in understanding the needs of our students. Each student undergoes a personal interview where we can find out a little more about the student's goals and learning style. If necessary, the student is also given an evaluation exam to determine the appropriate start point. We then pair the student with an appropriate instructor for a trial session. During this free session, the student has the opportunity to evaluate the instructor, and request a new one if the current one is not suitable. |
